Replicating a “rebel without a cause” – no cuffs only jumpsuits, at the Boggo Road Gaol fashion shoot with Brisbane photographer and blogger, BNEstyle. A first time collaboration saw two fashion-fierce bloggers exploring how the multifaceted beauty of this historical gaol could provide the perfect fashion landscape for an edgy styled look.

The stylistic intentions featured the pairing of dark colour palettes seen in the two jumpsuits provided by popular Brisbane-based online store, The Gallery Boutique. Stocking labels from Cameo The Label to Karen Millen, this boutique offers high end designer and affordable pieces in the one e-visit. Instantly we fell in love with the combination of multi textures seen in the teaming of cotton Cameo Deeper Water playsuit with the bomber inspired Cameo Friendly Fires vest. This rock-chick combination was only enhanced by the attitude of Mascotte‘s black, laced, ankle boots; a new seasonal product from the AW 13/14 collection.

While it is important to keep the theme consistent, a little femininity was added to soften the look, seen in the selected Cotton & Co jewellery. Pieces from the Bow Peep collection doubled as both edgy and on trend and feminine, an obvious juxtaposition against the black hues. However, my favourite piece featured a large, curb chain on which hung a filigree heartbeat pendant, otherwise the perfect statement to a simple jumpsuit and blazer combination.

A final thank you goes to all involved in the success of this shoot, namely Cotton & Co, Mascotte, The Gallery Boutique and innovative fellow blogger, Yolanda!

Bows and Trimmings…

IMG_3314

For the last few months, my nail design has neglected creativity. After a while simple block colours in neutral hues becomes rather routine and or, for lack of a more eloquent word…boring. Like a junk food addict robbed of sugar, I decided rather than introducing a little nail art into my design, I would instead go all out with bows and trimmings! To keep in with a darker winter palette, I have chosen a deep lilac- a colour that is still feminine while creating a little excitement.  Bows or polkadots….are far too hard to chose between, so I decided to feature both!

Am I capable of doing this myself? Absolutely not, however, I am very lucky to have an amazing nail technician located in trendy James Street, Brisbane. Brisbane Fashionistas, if you are looking for a killer mani/pedi then you should definitely check out Scratchers Nails in the fashion precinct of James Street. With a full range of shellac colours, stamps, bows, studs and jewels, Scratchers Nails will have you feeling and looking like a punk princess in no time!

Bloggers, what’s your nail style? A simple colour or an intense nail pattern?

Khaki…not an easy colour to feature as the main focus of an outfit, but when teamed with tans, black and chocolate browns, the colour creates a lovely warm, earthy aesthetic.  A return is seen of those shiny, patent boots of which I admire, creating a very military feel with the khaki. Military is once again a key trend this A-W 13/14, and my advice is to be brave and embrace it.

Style Tip: Remember, when styling a military inspired look, avoid an outfit comprised of only heavy pieces. Tone down the seriousness with a pop of bright coloured accessory, or a relaxed, floppy hat. Not only will this add some light to the colour palette, but it will also make the ensemble look and feel more personalised.

Stumbling across this desolate, run down space, I felt it most appropriate to use this to my advantage as a great visual background, complementing the military ensemble. Not to mention, the sunshine created a warm and inviting environment for myself and Brisbane blogger, The Fringe to escape the indoor winter chill and build a natural tan. Check out her stylish musings and pay her blog a visit at Love, The Fringe. Until then….at ease!

Monochrome…not always the same old song and dance! Here I have selected some statement pieces that embrace an edgy take on the monochrome colour palette. The soft grey of the sweatshirt breaks up what is otherwise a heavy black ensemble, along with the splashes of gold in the accessories and trimmings of the ankle boot. Choosing versatile pieces, this outfit would double as a killer day or night look.

…While didacticism suggests Satan Loves You…I think we’d all agree…

It sure feels great to be loved!
