MBFF Brisbane Myer SS16 Show

MBFF Brisbane Aje Myer Jen Hawkins Kris Smith

The 10th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane kicked off with a bang, as Jennifer Hawkins opened the Myer Spring Summer 16 Show, powering down the runway in a stunning Alex Perry lace pencil dress. The face of Myer was accompanied on the runway by Myer ambassador Kris Smith, who looked chiselled and dapper in his tailored M.J Bale suit.

Like any fabulous runway event, the front row was filled with fashion A-listers including Alex Perry, Adrian Norris and Edwina Robinson of Aje, Emma and Amy Sheppard and this season’s Bachelor evictee Jasmine Brown.

This show was my favourite from the week, as it showcased Myer’s new Spring Summer 16 collection from the top Australian designers including Alex Perry, Tony Maticevski, Aje, Acler, Cozi, Cue & more. If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that I’ll be hitting up Myer to snap up my favourite pieces before they sell out.

Presenting my favourite runway moments, captured by my fashion partner in crime, Erin Smith Photography.

Too Pure To Be Pink!

To Pure To Be Pink!

French Connection Polka Dot Dress, Gorman Pink Leather Jacket, Wittner Sabino Flats, Karen Walker One Meadow Sunglasses, Oroton Metier Mini Bag, Lack Of Color The Midnight Muse II Hat, Pandora Rings, Michael Kors Darci Watch.

One of my favourite one-liners from Grease. It appears the Pink Ladies were onto something because pink has never looked so delicious, then with a serving of attitude, a touch of edge and a dash of monochrome. That’s how the cool kids are wearing it 😉

French Connection Cross Over Shirt, French Connection Leather Look Side Split Skirt, Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote, Jo Mercer Sublime Booties, Karen Walker Super Duper Strength Sunglasses, Michael Kors Blair Pave Rose Gold Watch, Fossil Rondel Wire Bracelet, Fossil Bangle (similar style here), Swarovski Earrings.

I’ve always thought of khaki as a very masculine colour, having always associated this shade with a military context and consequently, I’ve always ruled khaki out of my stylistic choices. That was until my eyes fell on this gorgeous French Connection shirt…and I was won over. The juxtaposition between the  masculine khaki tone is balanced beautifully against the feminine, sheer draping  seen in its structure.

Embracing an earthy colour palette, I’m enhancing the strong khaki colour with rich brown shades, seen with my classic Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote and the tortoiseshell print of my Karen Walker frames. Mirrored with my makeup, I’ve featured a soft bronzed shadow and peachy nude lipgloss in today’s beauty regime.

I’ll be honest, I’m really loving that sexy, vampy vibe at the moment, which is why I’ve teamed this shirt with a luxe, leather look skirt and peep toe booties. Alternatively a crisp pair of white or ripped blue jeans would make a chic, casual ensemble.

Lastly, I’m finishing on a high note with a little sparkle and a splash of rose gold…. After all, a little extravagance never hurt no one!

French Connection Chambray Jumpsuit, Jo Mercer Erika Platforms, French Connection Fold Over Clutch, Tiffany & Co Circle Pendant, Le Specs Noddy Sunglasses (similar style here), Pandora Heart Ring, Tiffany & Co Stacked Rings.

Let’s be frank, there’s no other fabric as effortlessly cool as chambray. Often mistaken for denim and worn more frequently in the form of a relaxed button up, I’m super excited to add a unique chambray flavour to my wardrobe with this French Connection chambray jumpsuit, aka my idea of summer’s little one-piece.

Despite being a mix of cool and casual, I love how this piece remains completely feminine in form with a structured bodice, sweetheart neckline and relaxed pant. The lightweight nature of the chambray offers a breathable fabric perfect for those steamy Brisbane temperatures. Best accessorised with a chunky platform like these Jo Mercer Erika heels and splash of metallics, seen in a two tone belt, jewellery and foiled French Connection clutch, I’m taking over summer with some serious swag.

Not the usual hangout that’s for sure, but Erin Smith Photography and I love the juxtaposition of girly meets grunge and this forgotten, graffiti covered alleyway makes the perfect backdrop. Capturing a summer that’s nothing if not imaginative….
